Meat on the Bones....

Today's story will probably make you giggle......I know it makes me laugh every time I tell it. It might be a little too much information, but it's one of the differences between black men and white men that never ceases to amaze me. One of the "benefits" of being married to a black man is they tend to love a little more meat on the bones. =) In other words the bigger the "gluteus maximus" the better! I remember back in '92 when Sir Mix a Lot's song came out....you all know it...."Baby Got Back".....well that was the year Jamie and I met and I never soaked in the true meaning of the song until the "back" comments were directed at me! The first time Jamie told me my b.u.t.t. was "huge"....well, let's just say if looks could kill he would have been six feet under! I told him he was so rude! He said, "what are you talking about, that was a compliment!" I said "what, how could you telling me my butt is huge be a compliment!!!!?" He said, "black men don't want bones...we want meat on the bones!" Who knew!? Hilarious! I think I'll go have some dessert now.....not really, but it's nice to not have to worry soooo much about that second bite of cake. =)

Amy,

I have had my own personal experience with this one even before Ray. When I moved to St. Louis from the small town where I grew up (where there was NO minority population of any type), I got a few comments from black men I had become acquainted with through my job. We were on friendly terms, so they felt comfortable in saying that I was a white girl with a black girl's body, mainly because of my booty and at the time, my waist was really tiny. But I have always had a bit of a bigger butt by white girl standards, no matter how small I am otherwise. Its in the jeans, or in the genes! LOL! A while back Ray made a comment about my "fat a**", and I said, why can't you just be nice! I wasn't too offended, because he was just playing around, but you know us girls are sensitive about comments about our body or weight. So, there was still a flicker of that feeling you get when you feel insecure about the way you look, or someone draws attention to a certain body part, it can be embarrassing for some of us. He had made a comment here or there before, too. Then, we were talking about something, I don't even remember what, and he said, "Yeah, but your a** is bigger than mine." I said, "Is that a good thing or a bad thing for you?" Then, HE got a little embarrassed because I took him off guard with my question. Turns out it is a VERY good thing. LOL!

Heather,

So funny that you commented on this particular post. Just the other night we were at a friends house for a 4th of July celebration and as we were leaving somehow the size of my booty came up. It was one o'clock in the morning why on earth that was a topic I have no idea! LOL! Anywho...Jamie made the exact same comment as Ray.....he said, "Ya that's a lot of a**!" One of my friends just looked at him with this face of "mortification" and I said, "No no that's a good thing he's not being mean...it's a compliment!" We all just laughed! After 18 years I am used to it but others..not so much!

Hugs....Amy
