The Color of Love.....

When two people come together it's normally because they have fallen in love, and in a perfect world "love conquers all." Now, when two people from different races and backgrounds come together it's also because they have fallen in love and once again "love conquers all," right? Well this is a blog about two people from different races and backgrounds that did fall in love 17 years ago, then married 16 years ago, had a daughter 14 years ago and just so happen to be black (my husband) and white (me). Is this the end of the story...not by a long shot, actually it is just the beginning. Everyday I will share a different story about my experiences in an interracial marriage. Each story will be something that I have personally gone through with my family. I hope that what I share on this blog about my experiences will make you laugh and it might even make you cry, but more importantly I hope you can relate and that in some way, shape or form it helps you in your interracial relationship, whatever "mix" that might be.

If you have comments or questions please feel free to post them. Thank you for checking out "The Many Shades of Love!" More tomorrow......

VERY cool, Amy! Of course, being in an interracial relationship and family myself, I'm sure we will relate on many levels. I look forward to reading some of your own personal insights. Great start!

Love this. So nice to read your blogs. It is funny how my kids classify themselves. They aren't black or white they are Italian. Isn't that funny. My dad is Sicilian and the kids love it. But I feel a sense of responsibility to make sure my kids understand their heritage...white black and yes Italian. We are a strong family full of different colors. I think my husband puts it so well-they (the kids) are the best of both worlds. I will keep checking in on your blogs. B

Barb that is so true....the best of both worlds! Keep instilling that in them and they will be so strong in who they are! Happy early Mother's Day! Amy

And when God created Amy and Jamie and Tatiana in His image, which must be black, white, brown, yellow, red . . . maybe even purple, He gifted each of them with a beautiful mind and soul . . . and then, He gifted us with them. We are so blessed!! Blog on! The world needs your message, wisdom, and love. Color blind? No way! We see and celebrate your glorious colors! Love you three!! Aunt Sal

I'm anonymous . . . I couldn't figure out what profile I should select. What is a URL? What profile should I choose? "Anonymous" was the only one that would accept my comment. An ancient mind with a computer can be a "sad thing!" Love you! Aunt Sal

I was born African American (Black) grew up in the 70's in Denver, Colorado in a racially mixed neighborhood my whole life and all of the schools that I went to were also equally racially mixed, which I loved.

My two brothers and one sister and I were blessed by God to have parents that taught us that it never mattered what race of a girl (for my brothers and I) or what race of a guy (for my sister) that we fell in love and married, just as long as we were happy and we loved each other.

Although, I had a little high school crush on a cute Black girl named Debbie Brooks that lived across the street from my home, my actual first high school girlfriend was a Hispanic/Latina.

I believe that Racism and Prejudice is first taught in the home. Also if a person is raised in a one race neighborhood or predominately a country, where all the people are the same skin color, they grow up more closed minded. One of the things that make America great is that we have almost every nationality living here. The late great Bruce Lee once said that every race and nationality has something beautiful to offer. That is so true, but we just have to have our hearts and minds open to accept it.

In closing, whenever I see an interracial couple or bi-racial people in public, I think to myself, how beautiful to see people with an open heart and open mind and the world is getting better after all and more so in the southern states in America, where the biggest problems always have been.

Thank you so much for your beautiful post! I am just now seeing it as I didn't get email updates on the blog until recently. If we could all have open hearts and open minds life would be so much easier for all of us wouldn't it? I have never ever understood racism. It is taught and it is a total waste of time, energy and emotion. I am hoping that this blog will open some eyes and let people see what an average interracial couple/family goes through on a daily basis...the good and the bad. I love my husband with all my heart and that is what truly matters. The quote that you wrote is lovely....

“When you take a set back, don’t take a step back because God is going to make your comeback” by Rev. Tim Storey.

That is true for anything in life. I am going to remember that one and put it to use daily! Thank you!
